About

My name is Brandon Shollenberger, and this is my public notebook. I call it that rather than a blog because it’s just a journal for my thoughts people are welcome to read and comment on. I can make no promises about what will be posted here.

  1. Brandon,
I suggest you present the material in a chronological order. That way it may expose a behavior that finally can be judged as fraudulent.

My point is that McShane and Wyner finally disclosed that the “Hockey Stick” in MBH98 and Mann et al 2008 was artifacts and not present in the underlying data. This is the scientific fact, until disproved.

However, Michael Mann has advocated the “Hockey stick” as a correct representation of the data both before and after the disclosure. He has had years to reconsider, but he hasn’t. Somewhere in that timeline of 15 years of resistance to the facts and promoting his view, I think Mann crossed the line between being ignorant and being fraudulent.

  2. Gunnar, I’m not sure my About page is the most appropriate place for this. I’d like my blog to be about more than Michael Mann, after all. That said, I am pretty much going in chronological order in my series on Mann. The half dozen or so posts I’ve written thus far have all been about his 1998 paper. I expect to cover the 1999 paper after that (though there’s a still a bit I want to write about the one I’m on).

The saddest part of all of this is pretty much none of the points I’ve made in my posts are disputed by Mann or his colleagues. Almost no facts in the hockey stick debate are actually contested. Things would have been resolved a decade ago if not for all the obfuscation and refusal to have actual discussions.

  3. Greetings from Sweden! You are now bookmarked.

Insane, yes, but it is really a result of the human mind, insane…

  4. Brandon, ref; John Cook & University of Queensland threatening letter.

Publish and be damned – if you don’t want to publish, send it to me and we will do it and let them sue us, I would look forward to it. If they want to play hardball, it would be an interesting test case. Plus UQ would have to pay for my trip to Aus + accommodation.
I note there are several others around the world on WUWT of similar mind. We need to push this.

  5. Karl, glad to hear it. Sorry for the delay. I forgot all about this page.

john, I’d prefer not to discuss passing subjects on this page as it’s permanent, but since you brought it up, I’ll explain my view. I continue to pursue this issue via formal means, people will have to care about the misbehavior of John Cook and the University of Queensland. They’ll have no choice since that misbehavior will come up every time John Cook and the University of Queensland offer another excuse for not releasing the data. It’ll be a constant source of embarrassment .

The data is interesting. It would be embarrassing for John Cook if people could look at it. However, it wouldn’t be anywhere near as embarrassing as making absurd legal threats and fabricating claims in press releases. Far fewer people would have heard about this if I had just published the data right away.

Sometimes the cover-up is more damning than the crime.

  6. Brandon,
I understand, so if we can be of any help in increasing the embarrassment from this side of the pond, you have our email.
I’m sure many others will also help in any way you need.

    Kind regards
    John

  7. Brandon,
Thanks for attempting to show the con in consensus. Keep it up. So many have been deceived because have confirmation bias. They do not think about what they read and accept blindly what they believe to be true, let alone use critical thinking, inquiry, and independent research to confirm what they believe. Exercise you right to free speech. The message is out there , the masses and their leaders are ignorant. Knowledge and Truth will win in the end.
